Patrick d'Aquino is started working on local knowledge eliciting in the early 90’s, Burkina Faso. He was one of the first to design a participatory GIS method in 1998. In the late 90’s, he was one of the co-designer of the ComMod approach and developed a transdisciplinary debate around this approach.. In early 2000’s, he conceived a multi-level framework and an engagement strategy to apply ComMod process to a bottom-up policy-making. He currently coordinates the two regional implementations of the multi-level ComMod processes. He’s currently driving in Senegal a young social sciences team with the aim to set a new frame of policy design, enabling to take into account a diversity of points of view about what is a “good” future.
Apart from scientific production (Liste CIRAD des publications de Patrick D'AQUINO), Patrick d’Aquino has a greater interest to strengthen a transdisciplinary work, as a route for potential operational translations of research outputs about local knowledge eliciting and valuing. In the early 2000’s, he facilitated an international reflection (West Africa, South-East Asia, Pacific Islands and Australia, and Europe) between researchers and practitioners about the scholars position which allow a true local knowledge eliciting. In 2004, he set up an interdisciplinary Master for local knowledge practitioners. Since 2012, he has been working with French donors and IFAD technical staffs to promote and circulate a new way to think “participation”, which concretely allows local knowledge eliciting and valuing in the framework of sustainability policies.
